Distribution: USA: Alaska; Europe. (Until a a formal revision of O. undulana is published, the cryptic species, widespread in the US and Canada, is included in the distribution map with images listed nr. undulana.)
Similar Species:
  • 2844 Orthotaenia deprecatoria - Specimens from a northwest population placed in BOLD BIN group BOLD:AAA8540, currently misidentified as O. undulana, refer to 2844 O. deprecatoria in Gilligan et al. (2020).
  • 2859.5 Syricoris lacunana
  • Pinned specimens of related species. (Hint: select View by Region on the related species page.)
Synonymy:
  • undulana [Denis & Schiffermüller] 1775 (Tortrix) - MONA 1983: 2770; Type locality: Vienna, Austria
  • aemulana Hübner [1825] 1816 (Celypha)
  • campestrana Zeller 1876 (Sericoris); Type locality: USA: Maine or Massachusetts
  • dilutifuscana Walsingham 1879 (Sericoris); Type locality: USA: southern Oregon

  • rufa Tutt 1889 (Sericoris)
  • urticana Hübner 1799 (Tortrix)
  • Taxonomic Notes: Orthotaenia undulana ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) is treated as a European species also found in Alaska with specimens from the US and southern Canada, previously treated by authors as O. undulana, regarded as a cryptic species in Gilligan et al. (2020), Insects, 11(9), 594: 1-59. A future split could result in the elevation of O. campestrana (Zeller, 1876), currently a synonym of O. undulana, to full species with O. dilutifuscana Walsingham, 1879, also currently a synonym of O. undulana, treated as a junior synonym of O. campestrana.
