Synonymy: Gelechia quinquecristatella Chambers, 1878
Taxonomic Notes: Xenolechia quinquecristatella (Chambers, 1878) is included as a synonym of 1875 Xenolechia aethiops (Humphreys & Westwood, 1845) in Lee et al. 2009, erroneously following Heppner (2003) which makes no mention of either species. The synonymy was made by Meyrick (1925:69) without explanation. Busck (1903:785) stated that Meyrick identified USNM specimen's of quinquecristatella, det. Walsingham, as aethiops. Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist) reinstated quinquecristatella. MPG will continue to list quinquecristatella pending revision.
