Similar Species:
  • Sympistis pachet Troubridge, 2008 tends to have paler forewings and hindwings with pale area cleaner white; apparently not found east of the Mojave Dessert (Dave Wikle, pers. comm., 2022).

Synonymy:
  • obscurata Barnes & McDunnough 1912 (Oncocnemis) - MONA 1983: 10136; Type locality: White Mts., AZ
  • Taxonomic Notes: Sympistis obscurata, n. comb. in Troubridge (2008), was formerly placed in the genus Oncocnemis.
