Taxonomic Notes: |
Ponometia cf. bruchi refers to the unidentified specimen collected from St. Tammany Parish, LA by Vernon Brou, shown as "Ponometia new species 2" on the Nearctica.com website. It is believed to be Ponometia bruchi (Breyer 1931) or a closely related species. A specimen collected from AZ shares the same DNA barcode with other specimens in AAB3329, the BIN for "bruchi" at BOLD. A similar specimen was photographed in Texas (see above left of map). Todd (1966) transferred bruchi to Tarachidia and treated it as junior synonym of Tarachidia albisecta Hampson, 1910. Lafontaine & Poole (2010) transferred bruchi to Ponometia and retained it as a full species but without explanation. |
