Field Marks: |
FWL = ~6 mm; male with jet-black antennal tufts; shading between the HW PM line and the margin is dark - James Hayden (12/14/2020). |
| Similar Species: |
- Salbia tytiusalis FWL = ~6 mm; shading between the HW PM line and the margin is hardly distinct from the ground color and is practically continuous with the PM line - James Hayden (12/14/2020).
- Salbia mizaralis FWL = 8-9 mm; overall color is darker; males have a small, indistinct antennal scale tuft (or maybe two) - James Hayden (12/14/2020).

| Taxonomic Notes: |
Salbia melanobathrum (Dyar, 1914) is now recognized in the fauna of North America north of Mexico, specimen collected from Okeechobee Co., FL by Jim Vargo in 2013 (see Hayden, 2016) later identified by James Hayden in 2019. |
