Digital Guide to Moth Identification

420189.000982Ethmia macelhosiella – Busck, 1907

David Roberts
Larva and
Host Plants:
The larva feeds on Phacelia in May, then estivates, the adult emerging late in the year, as in the moth in this photo. ~ TH
Taxonomic Notes: The type specimen came from St. Louis, MO in the first decade of the 20th Century, but apparently it hasn't been collected in the Midwest for a long time. The biology of a population on Plummers Island, MD was reported by Busck and Heinrich 1922, Proc. Ent. Soc. Wash. 24: 1-9. ~ TH
