Matigramma obscurior Franclemont & Todd, 1983, listed as "obscurior Strand, n. stat." by Franclemont & Todd in Hodges et al. (1983) (Checklist), was originally described as an "aberration" of Matigramma laena Grote, 1882, a current synonym of 8680 Matigramma rubrosuffusa Grote, 1882.
