Monograph-type Plates -- Eastern Moths Identification Series
For plates covering Jim Vargo's North American specimens click here
For John Davis Collection plates covering northwestern living moths click here
There are several series of plates showing photos of moths to aid you in their identification. They are listed below in Hodges Check List order, with links on the left to the plates for pinned or museum specimens, and links on the right to two comparable series for living moths. Page sizes are very large. If you are using a dial-up modem at 56kb connection speed (or less), please read the following "warning."
WARNING: Dial-up Internet access at 56kbps modem speed or less can require several minutes for larger, photo-intensive pages to load. Dial-up users should always access only the Fast Plates in the rightmost column below. Test loadings by Carroll Rudy at 37.2kbps connecting modem speed in rural Wisconsin took about 2 minutes for Fast Plates containing an average of 20 photographs. Slow Plates and Spread Specimen Plates contain up to eight times as many photos and take proportionately more time to load. Visitors having high-speed Internet access will have no problems using this website, but slow speed dial-up visitors will be happier using only the Fast Plates and, where available, the Species Pages.
