6658 -- The Half-wing Moth -- Phigalia titea

03/05/2004 -- markings show better

Nice day today, started cool after rain last night. Turned sunny and got to over 70° F. Insects woke up and I got 3-4 new species. Found the pupa of a hornworm in the garden. Huge skein of geese was heading northwest at dusk. It's 11:30 pm and it's still 68° out there. Where are the MOTHS?. I saw two flybys earlier. It's very breezy, I guess too breezy for the moths. Well, except for one moth -- this one! It was sheltering in a doorway, far from the coach lantern, out of the wind. One moth, one new species for the yard list. I guess I shouldn't complain. Two other Phigalias are shown for comparison. This has been Phigalia week.
